Simple Recipes for Homemade Dog Shampoo
Flea Removal Dog Shampoo
Ingredients:
1 quart of water
1 cup of white vinegar / apple cider vinegar
1 cup of baby shampoo / non-toxic liquid dish soap
Directions:
1 ) Take a bowl and add one full cup of an all natural liquid dish soap or baby shampoo. This will form the base your homemade dog shampoo, and help loosen dirt and other particulate matter from the animal's fur. You want one that is advertised as being very gentle, in addition to being all natural. A dog's skin is just as sensitive as a human's, and you want to avoid anything that could irritate it.
2 ) Add one full cup of water and mix well. This will thin out the homemade dog shampoo so its effects will not be as harsh on the skin. Do not stir too vigorously, otherwise you will beat the mixture into a lather, which will make it much more difficult to work with and mix thoroughly. Feel free to add more water if you need to dilute the chemicals further for particularly sensitive skin.
3 ) Add one full cup of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and mix. This acts like a deodorant in your homemade dog shampoo. It works to give your pet's coat a lustrous shine, and will also work to keep fleas away. It also ensures that there is no soap residue left in the fur once you rinse everything away. The best part about the vinegar is that it helps prevent the wet dog smell that most people find so terrible.
If your dog has dry skin
A typical recipe for homemade dog shampoos for dogs with sensitive skin involves:
1 quart of water
1 cup of baby shampoo / non-toxic dish soap
1 cup of white vinegar /apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup of glycerine
2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
This homemade dog shampoo recipe’s addition of glycerine and aloe vera provide soothing elements for dogs with sensitive or dry skin.
Oatmeal Shampoo
• 1 Cup of Oatmeal
• 1 Cup of Baking Soda
• 4 Cups of Warm Water
• 1 Teaspoon of Dishwashing Liquid
In a food processor or coffee grinder, grind oatmeal until it’s a flour. Pour it into a bowl, and stir in the baking soda. Add the warm water and dishwashing liquid, stir until well incorporated. When you’re ready to use it, get your dog wet. Lather him up with the oatmeal shampoo and allow it to sit for 5 minutes if possible. Rinse off.
Home Made Flea Repellent [spray]
In search of a cheap, but effective flea repellent for your pooch? Then, try this: mix equal parts white vinegar and water together in a spray bottle, and apply the mixture directly to your dog's coat. Finish by working it in with your hands, and your pooch is protected from those pesky fleas. Fleas hate the smell and taste of vinegar; and do their best to avoid it.
